Route 3 highlights issues with transit in both Astoria/Ditmars in Queens and on Randalls Island. The lack of a subway service that runs along the north end of Queens causes issues with this route, forcing commuters to either drive themselves or use the bus, increasing road congestion. Expanding the W to Randalls Island and Harlem would partially remedy this issue, but the lack of a reasonably expandable service in Queens means a new line would likely be the best solution.
